We made it through what must have been one of the hottest summers in recent memory. Now, faced with the prospect of the worst El Niño in 17 years, the country is also in for fiercer typhoons. According to ReliefWeb’s June 6 Humanitarian Snapshot for the Philippines, “Typically, the El Niño phenomenon causes the behavior of tropical cyclones to become erratic, affecting their path and intensity. The paths tropical cyclones follow this year could shift northward to the islands of Luzon.”
