BAYANIJUAN sa Southville 7 (formerly known as BayaniJuan sa Calauan), the official resettlement site of Kapit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig (KBPIP), celebrated its first anniversary with a special visit from President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.Pres. Arroyo toured the resettlement site and saw the improvements since its launch last year. Joining her were ABSCBN Foundation Inc. (AFI) managing director Gina Lopez, National Housing Authority (NHA) general manager Rico Laxa and Calauan Mayor George Berris. To date, 1,128 families have been relocated from Estero de Paco to BayaniJuan sa Southville 7 in Calauan, Laguna. The sudden influx of relocatees was supplemented with the construction of housing units with build partners Habitat for Humanity and Phoenix Sun International Corp. sponsored by San Miguel Corporation, Sunlife Financial and Zonta Club of Makati. As well, communal facilities have been built, including a livelihood center, basketball court, playground and clinic in cooperation with First Balfour, Telus and other corporate sponsors. The utilities have been boosted with the installation of a portable treatment plant, 20 shallow and deep wells and 100 solar street lights. Livelihood help has also been extended to the relocatees with the trainings conducted by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). A total of 273 newly-trained relocatees now have jobs. BayaniJuan sa Southville 7 is comanaged by AFI and the NHA. Relocation of informal settlers from the estero began last June 2009. KBPIP focused on Estero de Paco, a major tributary of the Pasig River, as its pilot site. Comments (0)
