| Lapus to KCh: ‘Keep pioneering’ |
AT the kickoff of the 10th anniversary events of Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. (KCFI), Department of Education Sec. Jesli Lapus lauded executive director Rina Lopez-Bautista and her staff for their commitment and irrepressible spirit, asking them to keep pioneering in the field of educational technology.Admitting that the present public educational system is “Jurassic,” Sec. Jesli Lapus said that his task of producing competitive students for the 21st century was a daunting challenge. “Multimedia digital materials are the way to go,” he said, “if we are to produce a workforce that is globally competitive.” Lopez-Bautista meanwhile charted the direction of the foundation which, according to her, is “right now developing content that will help students develop 21st century skills. Anchored on the Understanding by Design framework, we will focus on essential learning outcomes and authentic assessment. We will also focus on critical issues and values to help our learners develop their uniqueness, their talents and gifts for themselves, their families and others. “The Understanding by Design framework hopes to create a participatory culture of learning and cultivate a love for learning among the young, hoping to empower them so that they can be the best them and discover a sense of purpose of serving others,” she added. The event elicited some P7.4 million worth of pledges from members of the audience who were moved by the documentary “Hearts and Minds: The Knowledge Channel Story.” (Doris Nuval)
