WORKING with Bayan, young people who are part of the telco’s Teach Lola campaign work towards bridging the communication gap between the younger and older generations. “More and more young people communicate using new tools that the older generation is not familiar with. This compelled Bayan, in keeping with its thrust of letting the Filipino voice be heard, to come up with Teach Lola,” said John Rojo, Bayan vice president for corporate brand and communications. “Our objective is to encourage the young to teach their lolas and lolos these new technologies.” The program has two components: Teach Lola trainors and a website (www.teachlola.com) where anyone can download manuals for free. Teach Lola now has more than 20 trainors from all departments in Bayan.
“We are starting Teach Lola’s rollout through Bayan employees’ grandparents,” Rojo said. “After being trained by our teaching partner Learn.ph, our tutors will spearhead our events to help bring more apos and grandparents together.” Aside from teaching sessions, Bayan also enables other people to participate in the process through an online manual available in the project’s official website. At www.teachlola.com, anyone can download or update the Teach Lola modules as it is made user-generated. Grandma gets schooled “As trends portray, most communication happens online and as such, initiatives evolve and grow online,” adds Rojo. Indeed, through Teach Lola, the younger generation can now take part and help make this high-tech world a friendly place for their grandparents. Comments (0)
