Pinoy Big Brother Update: Everybody loves Melai!
RIDING high on 1,226,692 votes, Melisa “Melai” Cantiveros finally delivered the coup de grace during the Big Date on the Big Night on Feb. 13. The 21-year-old aspiring teacher beat out Paul Jake Castillo (1,044,295 votes), boyfriend Jason Francisco (954,961), Johan Santos (303,751) and Tibo Jumalon (294,161) to become the newest “PBB” Big Winner. She joins an elite roster that includes Kim Chiu, Ejay Falcon, Ruben Gonzaga, Keanna Reeves, Bea Saw and Nene Tamayo.

Melai arguably “owned” the most recent season of “PBB,” her wacky antics and rib-tickling quips—and, later a romance with Jason that developed right under the spotlight—inciting late, laughterfilled evenings among thousands of followers here and abroad. (As of last count, the “Melason” Facebook page has reached almost 300,000 fans.)

The General Santos City native received P1 million in cash, a house and lot, a 40-inch LCD TV, a water refilling station franchise, and a trip to three Asian destinations for herself and a companion. Her chosen charity, Substitute Home for Girls, also received P1M in cash. Post-“PBB,” Melai admitted she had changed a lot during her 19-week stint inside Big Brother’s house: “Nagbago po ako sa loob ng bahay. Nawalan ako ng hiya, kumapal ang mukha ko, na-in love….”

Aside from being the highest-rating season of “PBB,” “Double Up” is known for having the first husbandand- wife participants, two sets of housemates, two houses and a Big 5 instead of the traditional Big 4. Next up: “PBB Teen Edition: Clash of 2010” this summer!
