Greetings, readers! Allow me to introduce myself. My name is John Alexis Lee Castino, but my colleagues know me better as Jal. As a former intern, Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. (KCFI) gave me an amazing and educational experience during my three-month stint. So, when the opportunity came, I went from being an intern to becoming an associate of KCFI! Working for the foundation is quite fulfilling; everyone is passionate about making a change in our educational landscape.
In line with Earth Month this April, let me share with you the adverse effects of climate change which resulted in extreme weather conditions lately. With the Department of Education (DepEd) now allowing school heads the authority to cancel classes due to the hazardous heat, modular-based learning made a return for over a million learners in various regions across the country. However, the problem with relying purely on modules is that it is not appealing for children, not to mention the disadvantaged learners in reading comprehension who will inevitably struggle to absorb the materials provided by their teachers. How are they going to be motivated to learn from the endless black and white pages?
Thanks to KCFI, we can mitigate these circumstances by providing innovative, interactive and entertaining mediums for the learners. With Knowledge Channel’s 16-hour, all-curriculum, all-educational shows airing on cable, satellite and free TV through digital boxes and A2Z Channel 11, children can watch educational programs even when they’re not in the classroom. Knowledge Channel is available on iWantTFC and short clips of programs are uploaded on YouTube for those with internet access as well.
Since 70% of Filipino households are unconnected, KCFI offers Knowledge Channel Portable Media Libraries (KC PMLs) and Knowledge Channel TV (KC TV) for on-demand viewing of Knowledge Channel video lessons no matter where they are in the country, leaving no children behind. Teachers and learners alike can utilize our offerings in tandem with their learning materials, making up for the shortcomings of this sudden modular-based approach. Whether for early childhood and kindergarten, or grades 1 to 10, KC PMLs and KC TV can tackle each competency through educational entertainment curated for the DepEd curriculum.
With the scorching heat causing the cancellation of classes, it should act as a reminder for everyone that we should take care of our planet, especially this Earth Month. Let’s help the children affected by donating KC PMLs and KC TV to schools. Donate to Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. today through BPI Acct.
