This April as we step into National Literature Month or Buwan ng Panitikang Pilipino, we are reminded of the magical journey through words and stories, especially those by Filipino authors. It’s a special time to enjoy reading and storytelling, sparking the imaginations of young minds and nurturing a lifelong passion for learning. This month is more than a celebration of Filipino literature, it is a recognition of its critical role in shaping young minds, from the foundational stages of early childhood development to the structured learning in basic education and beyond.
At the Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. (KCFI), we are passionate about creating learning experiences that resonate with children’s curiosity and foster early learning stimulation. We animated 52 Adarna House stories and joined forces with other publishers and authors to offer even more animated educational content for children 0-8 years old, including aligning with the Early Childhood Care and Development Council and the Department of Education. These video narratives are more than entertainment, they are gateways to learning, skills development and sparking curiosity.
Our educational shows designed for early learners like “Kwentong Pambata,” “Kwen toons,” “Wikaharian” and “Ready, Set, Read!” lay the groundwork for developing language skills, creative and critical thinking and values. For our high school viewers, series like “Gab to Go,” “Carlos’ Blog” and “Pahina” and animated classics like “Ballad of A Mother’s Heart” by Jose La Villa Tierra offer enriching experiences and insights into our cultural heritage.
To ensure that these Philippine literary gems reach as many young minds as possible, we distribute these on various platforms. They are broadcast on SKY Cable, Cablelink, PCTA-member cable services, Cignal and GSat, as well as on digital free TV and daily spots on A2Z Channel 11 and ABS-CBN’s Kapamilya Channel. The same are also streamed on iWantTFC and are accessible on YouTube on knowledgechannelorg. They are accessible offline through the Knowledge Channel Portable Media Library and Knowledge Channel TV.
As we celebrate National Literature Month, we would like to emphasize the pivotal role of early learning stimulation in the cognitive and emotional development of children 0-8 years old. Parents, caregivers and teachers are enjoined to help our children develop to their fullest through early language literacy. KCFI, on our end, is committed to delivering content that captivates and educates, aiming to build a future where literacy and learning are not just goals but a reality for every Filipino child.
