As National and World Teachers’ Month comes to a close, I reiterate and reflect with deep pride and gratitude on the incredible work of our child development workers and teachers (CDW/Ts). On Sept. 27 and Oct. 4, we gathered virtually for the “Early Care Matters” online conference, where dedicated preschool teachers came together to focus on improving the health, nutrition and caregiving practices that benefit our youngest learners.
As part of the 25th anniversary celebration of the Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. (KCFI), this event highlighted the vital role that CDW/Ts play in the lives of Filipino children. The sessions covered key aspects of early childhood care and development and the National Early Learning Framework and Curriculum, emphasizing the importance of good health, proper nutrition and responsive caregiving in nurturing the holistic development of every child through the subject matter experts and talented individuals we have invited such as from UNICEF, University of the Philippines Family and Child Development and Miriam College. These foundational elements ensure that children grow up healthy, secure and ready to learn.
At the Knowledge Channel Foundation, we believe that early care is the foundation for a brighter future. Education, especially in the early years, fosters every part of a child’s development—physically, emotionally and intellectually. During the conference, CDW/Ts were excited and thankful for the opportunity to access KCFI resources of some of our most beloved educational shows, including “Kwentoons,” “Musikantahan,” “ILY1000,” “Wikaharian” and “Ready, Set, Read!,” along with “Pop Babies” and “Art Smart.” These multimedia resources are designed to spark curiosity and creativity, enriching the learning experiences in their virtual and physical classrooms.
Many of our CDW/Ts volunteer their time, often working in challenging conditions, yet they remain steadfast in their commitment to the children they serve. I have immense admiration for these individuals who, despite limited resources, manage to provide the love and education that every child deserves during these critical formative years.
I have always believed that if we change the beginning of a child’s story, we can change their entire life’s path. Our CDW/Ts do this every day, giving children the strong start they need to succeed. It is a privilege for the Knowledge Channel Foundation to support these educators by offering multimedia resources that promote meaningful learning and help children develop essential skills like critical thinking, creativity and communication.
During the “Early Care Matters” online conference, I witnessed firsthand the unwavering dedication of CDW/Ts to their mission. They understand that their role goes far beyond teaching the basics; they are caregivers and mentors, ensuring that each child receives the nurturing and guidance they need to thrive. Their commitment to shaping the future of the children they serve deeply inspires me.
As we celebrate the success of this online conference, I extend my heartfelt thanks to all the CDW/Ts who joined us. Your work is invaluable and your dedication truly makes a difference. You are shaping the future of our nation by giving every child the opportunity to grow in a supportive, enriching environment. And as you continue in this mission, know that we at the Knowledge Channel Foundation are here to stand with you, providing the tools and resources to make your classrooms—whether online or in person—joyful places of learning and growth.
