Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray’s advocacy in education has earned her a new title. She is now the “Ambassador for Knowledge” for Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. (KCFI).
KCFI president and head of the education arm of ABSCBN Integrated Public Service Rina Lopez-Bautista gave Gray the citation for the latter’s “exceptional dedication in advocating for inclusive quality education in the service of Filipino children.” It was signed by Bautista and KCFI vice chairman and ABS-CBN chairman emeritus Eugenio Lopez III.
The announcement was made during Gray's recent appearance on ABS-CBN's morning talk show, "Magandang Buhay."
Since 2016, the FilipinoAustralian beauty queen has been volunteering as a teacher assistant to the students of nonprofit organization Young Focus PH, which supports the holistic development of underprivileged children in Smokey Mountain in Tondo, Manila through education.
“Working with Young Focus was the very reason why I joined the pageantry in the first place,” Gray said during her interview on “Magandang Buhay.”
In the official letter of conferment received by Gray, KCFI hopes that her role as “Ambassador for Knowledge” “will raise awareness of the global learning crisis affecting middle- and low-income countries, especially the Philippines, and in turn encourage local and global collaborative solutions between government, businesses and citizenry by inviting them to become stewards and cocreators of transformative learning.”
