July was another busy month for Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. (KCFI) as it continued its efforts to help in the development of Filipino children along with its many partners.
On July 6, Asia Philanthropy Circle, of which KCFI is a member, downloaded its groundbreaking Regional Early Childhood Development (ECD) Landscape Study. Conducted by the Centre for Evidence and Implementation, the study mentioned KCFI as a key player in ECD in the country through its video lessons and training and mentoring of child development workers, teachers and other providers of childcare. KCFI president and executive director Rina Lopez was one of the study’s resource persons.
From July 4 to 7 KCFI actively participated in the League of Corporate Foundations’ (LCF) Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Expo and Conference with the theme “From Extra to Essential.” At the LCF CSR Guild Awards, KCFI won the Outstanding CSR Project in Environment award for “EcoProject: Kilos Kabataan Para sa Kapaligiran,” a collaboration with Unilever-Breeze Philippines and the schools division offices of Marikina, Taguig and Pateros. KCFI’s Knowledge on the Go (KOTG), an interactive trivia game with Knowledge Channel host Marlo Mortel, capped off the show. KOTG was collectively mounted by LCF’s Committee on Education, Aboitiz Foundation and KCFI.
On KCFI’s teacher-training front, five rollouts of Learning Effectively through Enhanced and Evidence-based Pedagogies or LEEP with climate change as a theme will be conducted for the teachers and principals of 18 public schools in the five host communities of First Gen Corporation. Over 300 educators from Batangas, Nueva Ecija, Bukidnon, Agusan del Norte and Bicol will be trained on 21st century approaches, specifically videobased instruction with KCFI’s video lessons.
Earlier, in June, KCFI vice president Edric Calma was recognized by the Department of Science and TechnologyScience and Technology Information Institute as a media champion of its Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly-Operated KioskS or STARBOOKS project. That same month, KCFI also received book donations from Big Bad Wolf Books during their on-site fair in Pasay.
