The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Region I in Ilocos Norte joined forces with Energy Development Corporation (EDC) to celebrate Fire Prevention Month through the 7th Provincial Fire Olympics, themed “Sa Pag-iwas sa Sunog, Hindi Ka Nag-iisa” (In Fire Prevention, You Are Not Alone). The event showcased the strength, agility and dedication of local firefighters, highlighting the importance of community collaboration in ensuring safety and resilience. Trophies for Ilocos Norte’s 7th Provincial Fire Olympics winnersTrophies for Ilocos Norte’s 7th Provincial Fire Olympics winners

This year’s competition featured the BFP Ultimate Firefighters or BUFF challenge. The Blazing Showdown tug-ofwar was a battle of raw power and determination. Beyond the physical contests, the “Apoy at Lente” photography competition, judged by EDC employees, provided a powerful visual narrative of firefighters in action—capturing fire prevention activities, community fire drills, fire safety education and the compassionate response to fire victims.

Deborah Sabarre-Melchor, corporate relations department site lead of EDC Burgos Wind Power Corporation, shared an inspiring message during the awarding ceremony at Robinsons Ilocos.

“Today has been a true testament to the skill, strength and unwavering dedication of our brave firefighters,” she said. “Your commitment to protecting lives and communities resonates deeply with EDC’s values of fostering a safe and resilient environment. We are honored to stand alongside you, recognizing the invaluable role you play in our society,” she said.

Sabarre-Melchor emphasized the importance of camaraderie, discipline and service, aligning with EDC’s commitment to bringing everyone together for a thriving and flourishing world in the years to come. This partnership underscores EDC’s dedication to supporting initiatives that enhance community safety and preparedness, which are crucial elements in creating a sustainable and regenerative future.

The champions of the event included Cluster 2 (Brgy. Poblacion, Burgos) in the Barangay category, North Luzon Renewables NorthWind in the Industrial category and Cluster 4 (Batac, Currimao, Pinili and Badoc) in the BFP category. Meanwhile, “Future Firefighters!,” which encapsulated the essence of nurturing the next generation of heroes, won the “Apoy at Lente” photography contest.
