Lopez Group Winning Circle

WHERE were you on February 25, 1986? Those of us who were born in the 1980s and earlier can still conjure up the joy, jubilation and pride of that Tuesday when the dictator Ferdinand Marcos and his family were finally ousted in the peaceful revolt that awed the world.

Twenty-five years later, we see “EDSAs” taking place all over the world, in places like Tunisia, Egypt, Bahrain, Yemen, Iraq and Jordan. And even as we speak, Libya is the cynosure of the world as the citizens of the North African country finally square off against their own Marcos, longtime leader Moamer Kadhafi.

This month, we train the spotlight on ABS-CBN’s News and Current Affairs Department (NCAD), now headed by Ging Reyes. Based overseas as North America bureau chief since 2002, Reyes took the challenge of leading the department’s over 800 talents and regular employees in the age of “stiff competition in multi-platform communications.” Some five months after taking on her new assignment, the Kapamilya named by the Filipina Women’s Network as one of the 100 Most Influential Filipino Women in the US in 2007 talks to LopezLink about her plans for the NCAD.

The department also contributed to ABS-CBN’s winning year at the Anvil Awards of the Public Relations Society of the Philippines when its Boto Mo, iPatrol Mo won one of the network’s four Awards of Excellence. In all, the Kapamilya network romped off with five of the nine trophies—including a Bronze Anvil for 10.10.10: Run for the Pasig River—awarded to Lopez Group companies; Energy Development Corporation and Eugenio Lopez Foundation completed the Group’s winning circle. Congratulations to all the winners!

Hundreds of responses have come in to the invitation extended by chairman emeritus Oscar M. Lopez for employees to share how they apply the Lopez values at work. The entries are amusing, touching, inspiring—and it’s hard to pick the one answer that rules them all.
