K Channel celebrated Global Handwashing Day on October 15, 2014 together with Unilever at the Mandaluyong Elementary School – a Knowledge Channel connected school, launching their joint campaign to increase students’ awareness on the importance of hygiene and proper hand washing.
Held every October 15 worldwide, the Global Handwashing Day reminds children of the importance of proper hand washing and how it can prevent them from suffering from communicable diseases.
Around 400 students from Mandaluyong Elementary School participated in the event which was also participated in by Knowledge Channel’s President and Executive Director Rina Lopez-Bautista, Unilever executives Chito Macapagal and Gina Lorenzana and UNICEF’s Jon Villasenor. Kapamilya leading man Jericho Rosales surprised the students together with Bb. Pilipinas title-holders Parul Shah, Mary Ann Guidotti, Yvethe Santiago, MJ Lastimosa and Hannah Sison. Hosting the event was actress and celebrity mom Dimples Romana.
The celebration also launched the newest Global Handwashing jingle ‘Hugas Sayaw’ composed by former Pinoy Dream Academy scholar and singer-songwriter RJ Jimenez. Produced by K Channel in partnership with Unilever, the music video illustrates how proper hand washing should be done, with easy-to-remember dance steps.
K Channel conducted classroom-based sessions to further deepen children’s understanding of proper hygiene and cleanliness. Aside from fun group activities, Grade 3 students were treated with singing, dancing, and watching a short video entitled, “Nang Magkakulay ang Nayon.”
Knowledge Channel have partnered to educate 1 million students through a 20-minute video episode on proper hygiene that will demonstrate the 9 steps of proper hand washing. This video will be aired nationwide on K Channel for a year, and will also be made available on www.kchonline.ph, and will be installed in K Channel Portable Libraries. Vaseline 2-in-1 soap bars, flyers and banners will also be distributed to schools.
Both Uniliver andMore activities will take place in the coming weeks as K Channel brings the campaign to different public schools in Metro Manila. Volunteers are welcome to help educate children and spread the cause for cleaner hands and healthier lives. (Photos by Gelix Mercader and Niña Sherizze de Sagun)
