Leslie de Chavez's Artist Talk on July 5 from 2-4pm

Lopez Museum and Library invites everyone to join visual artist Leslie de Chavez as he talks about his featured works in the current exhibit Complicated on July 5 (Saturday) from 2 to 4 pm. His works in the exhibit are currently finalists in the upcoming Ateneo Art Awards 2014.

Known for his acerbic cultural commentary, de Chavez presented reactions to the museum’s Per Pacem et Libertatem studies by Felix Resurreccion Hidalgo that focus on colonization –not just as the context of Philippine history, but also as an ongoing process in which we currently dwell on today. He will discuss his processes, choice of materials, subject matter, and challenges and possibilities of art as engagement.

Leslie de Chavez earned his Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts (major in painting), cum laude, at the University of the Philippines. He was the prize winner of the Ateneo Art Awards in 2010 and has been awarded residencies by International Art Programme in Leipzig, Germany, Neo-Emerging Artists Residency in Seoul, Korea, and Asian Artists Fellowship Program in Korea.  De Chavez has also had solo exhibition in the Philippines, Singapore, China, Korea, Switzerland, and Germany. He has participated in art fairs in Singapore, Manila, Hong Kong, Miami, Zurich, and New York. He is currently represented by the Arario Gallery in Seoul, Korea.

Registration fee is P120 (P100 for students and Lopez Museum Members) and comes with a free admission to the current exhibition.

The Lopez Memorial Museum is at the ground floor, Benpres Building, Exchange Road corner Meralco Avenue, Pasig City. Museum days and hours are Mondays-Saturdays, 8 am to 5 pm, except holidays.
