Chairman & CEO of ABS-CBN and Vice Chairman of Lopez Holdings Corporation Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III delivers opening remarks. In the ever-changing business landscape, there’s that constant challenge to keep ourselves ahead of the competition. We always exercise caution when developing sound market strategies, go through great lengths to find and train the best people to carry out our plans and constantly expand our capabilities by adopting the latest technologies available—but so do most of our competitors.
So what exactly makes us distinct from the rest of the industry?
More than anything else, our culture of uncompromising business excellence gives us that distinction. As my father has always stressed, our primary aim is not profit. Rather, our main goal has always been to ensure unmatched quality in serving the Filipino people—our customers! Profit is good, but that’s not really the focus. Because once you gain an intimate understanding of the people’s needs, once you take care of your employees so they’d be capable of addressing those needs efficiently, and once you finally satisfy those needs through the uncompromising quality of work done, profit will come naturally.
This is the reason why business excellence occupies a special place in our hierarchy of values. We may have the best tools or the most talented people, but without the necessary drive for excellence needed to mobilize these assets, we’d fail as a Lopez entity. Nor could we have ever weathered the social, political, and economic trials that happened throughout our history as a Filipino nation.
Like the recent Lopez Achievement Awardees who best demonstrated business excellence—First Balfour which exceeded client expectations after displaying unmatched customer focus; Greencore Geothermal which showed how exceptional operations management multiplies efficiency; DZMM 630 which most fully embodied the Lopez corporate identity as we serve our Kapamilyas; and my niece Gina who continues to fight for Filipino interests through her various advocacies—we must never forget to nurture that desire to practice excellence in everything we do, simply because that’s how we set ourselves apart from the competition.
Congratulations to the winners of the Lopez Achievement Awards.
