AFI joins disaster relief operations during the 1990 Luzon earthquake
1991
Gina Lopez (GL), who has just returned to the country after two decades as a missionary overseas, volunteers in AFI as part of the Mt. Pinatubo eruption response
1993
After completing her masters in development management at the Asian Institute of Management, GL is named managing director of AFI. She starts focusing on programs for children
“Sine’skwela” becomes AFI’s initial venture into educational television and allows the foundation to put up its E-Media flagship program
1997
Bantay Bata 163 is launched on Feb. 14 as a “gift of love to Filipino children”; this is followed by the rollout of ABSCBN Microfinance in May
1998
Environmental arm Bantay Kalikasan launches on July 21, making it AFI’s fourth flagship program
1999
On June 21, AFI embarks on the massive La Mesa Watershed rehabilitation project
2001
One-year-old ABS-CBN Bayan Microfinance Foundation Inc. is renamed ABS-CBN Bayan Foundation Inc.
2005
AFI’s relief and disaster response services arm Sagip Kapamilya is formally established following a spate of typhoons in late 2004
2008
AFI integrates its flagship programs under BayaniJuan, launched on May 30. In July, GL is named comanager of the Save the Pasig River Rehabilitation project
2009
Kapit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig is formed by AFI and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources for the effort to rehabilitate Pasig River; by November, it holds the Philippine International Marathon 2009: A Run for the Pasig River
2010
10.10.10 A Run for Pasig River attracts 116,086 runners, toppling the world record set in 1988; the run raises P12 million
2011
More than 86,000 runners take part in 11.20.2011 Run for the Pasig River, making it the Philippines’ biggest racing event for 2011
2012
Around 70,000 participant brave the rains to join the 09.30. 2012 Run, Ride & Roll for the Pasig River in Quezon City In October, GL is named the Lopez Achievement Awards Special Awardee, with Lopez Group chairman emeritus Oscar M. Lopez hailing her as a “national treasure” on a mission to save the country’s national treasures

G Stuff, a store that sells the products of AFI’s identified ecotourism areas, opens in Power Plant Mall
2014
AFI is renamed ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation Inc. or ALKFI
2017
GL takes her advocacy to TV as host of “G Diaries,” a “socially significant and entertaining TV show… that highlights the country’s most scenic destinations in an effort to support ecotourism”
2018
Children’s Village is relaunched with improved facilities and programs

On its 30th anniversary in July, the foundation reverts to its original name, ABSCBN Foundation Inc.
