TFC’s 20th anniversary Ambassador, surprises passengers of a flight en route to Manila with a different kind of in-flight entertainment, showcasing what TFC heralds on it its anniversary – the “Galing ng Filipino.”
As premier network The Filipino Channel (TFC) prepares for its final take off to the culmination of its year-long 20th Anniversary celebrations, TFC 20 Ambassador Gary Valenciano surprised passengers en route to the Philippines via a Los Angeles, U.S.A. flight to Manila on October 13, as he performed the network’s anniversary theme and showcased the “Galing ng Filipino” mid-air.
Passengers who took flight PR103 of Philippine Airlines whether for a much awaited homecoming, a short visit or a complete return to home, were treated to an early pasalubong (welcome gift) and a different kind of in-flight entertainment when the Total Performer traversed various sections of the plane to be with Filipinos travelling to the Philippines. Like TFC’s mission to be with Filipinos in every part of their journey, Gary V showed that TFC endeavors to be with them as they go to the Philippines and back to their second homes, in their search for their own identity, to connect with family, reach out to their loved ones and even help build the community.
Much to the surprise and delight of passengers, Gary V broke out into the song “Galing ng Filipino” which essays salient characteristics for which the Filipino is known for: innate greatness or magaling; brilliant or matalino; resilient or matatag; diligent or masipag; dependable or maaasahan; fun-loving or masayahin; passionate or maalab ang damdamin; loving towards the family or mapagmahal sa pamilya; respectful or magalang; warm or mainit ang pagtanggap; religious or madasalin; dignified or marangal; courageous or matapang; kind or mabuti; and more.
The song written and composed by Jonathan Manalo, arranged by Gary V’s son Gab with additional lyrics by Pam Castillo and Jay Santiago, speaks of how Pinoys continue to carry these traits especially their ‘Galing’ wherever they are in the world. Gary V has also been performing the song in various TFC and community events all over the world, becoming the overseas Filipinos’ battle cry as they continue on with the greatness of the Filipino. Just this Saturday, Gary V shared the ‘Galing ng Filipino’ along with other world-class performers, with thousands of Filipinos in the highly successful and momentous “ASAP Live in LA.”
During the journey back to Manila, the Total Performer turned the otherwise normal flight into a concert of sorts, as passengers of the flight including those who heard of the song for the very first time, sang along with the theme’s catchy tune and most importantly, words, which they could relate to.
The flight could have been ordinary for the passengers but Gary V’s surprise completely spun the flight into their most memorable and became a continued testament to TFC’s journey with the overseas Filipino.
