The Kapamilya journey of Ganiel Krishnan

“I started as a courtside reporter for my alma mater, Far Eastern University, in 2015. It was a sudden decision to audition for the UAAP (University Athletic Association of the Philippines). I didn’t have any idea about basketball and volleyball at the time, but I was very persistent to see how far I could push myself to learn new things,” Ganiel shares.

An impulsive decision later became a turning point for Ganiel, opening more possibilities for her in the industry and leading to where she is today.

“… I dragged myself to get ready that morning because I was coming from a night of schoolwork and stuff, and thinking if I didn’t go to that event, I wouldn’t be where I am with ABS-CBN right now,” she candidly recounts about being tapped for an inter-department event for ABS-CBN.

Beauty queen with a purpose

Ganiel regards her pageantry days as one of her proudest achievements (not to mention her titles as Mutya ng Pilipinas Asia-Pacific 2016 and 2nd Princess of Miss World Philippines 2021, among others)—considering it as a “roller-coaster ride” which she’ll forever cherish.

But despite her successes, she decided to set aside her aspirations as a beauty queen and focus on her duty as a journalist. Following her continued success as a Star Patroller, where she channels her elegant poise in every celebrity report and exclusive interview, she has taken on another role as a Patroller for ABS-CBN News’ revamped “Patrol ng Pilipino.”

For Ganiel, accepting the new assignment was a no-brainer since it aligns with her purpose of service and inspiring future generations regarding the importance of upholding the truth while encouraging them to share their stories with the world.

“The main goal is to always serve the people. To be everywhere. I hope I would be able to do content that would benefit the public even more,” she adds.

Kapamilya goal

With her witty and relatable clips that have amassed thousands of reactions and comments, netizens consider her a “kween” of digital journalism— still on-brand with her persona as a standout beauty queen.

Ganiel’s ultimate Kapamilya goal is to be a positive figure for the youth.

“As a Kapamilya, my main goal is to be a positive force for change and make a meaningful impact on people’s lives. I hope to inspire a passion for learning and create a platform for meaningful discussion on important issues,” she says.

Her tips for those who aspire to emulate her ways in pageantry or journalism: “As a journalist, one important piece of advice is to always strive to be present and balanced in news coverage. This means presenting various sides of a story, giving equal weight to different perspectives and avoiding any bias.

“As a beauty queen, my advice would be to always stay positive, confident and graceful. Your outer beauty is enhanced by your inner beauty, so be kind, compassionate and humble. Always have a clear vision and purpose and use your platform to make a positive impact on society. Remember that true beauty comes from within and use your influence to inspire and uplift others.”
