Dr. Joselito Gapas, head of environmental and occupational health at First Philippine Holdings Corporation (FPH), died on Feb. 26, 2025 at the age of 65.
Gapas joined FPH in 2011 after a lengthy stint with Shell. At FPH, he set up a health management system for the Group and its subsidiaries.
He later led the FPH Group and Lopez affiliates’ COVID response strategy, which included the “Vac2Normal: Our Path to Recovery” corporate vaccination program.
Bunny Gerochi, human resources management head at FPH-First Gen Corporation, in an announcement of Gapas’ passing, recalled: “He spearheaded the development of our home, office and site health protocols, crafted our vaccination strategy and deployed our OH team to assist and advise us on our many workplace concerns. He was always generous with his time and guidance during personal or family health crises and was an inspirational and calming presence during that challenging period.”
In an interview with LopezLink in 2021, Gapas described the assignment as fulfilling and rewarding, explaining: “…This is not just about business. How do we contribute? How do we protect our people and, at the same time, support the country and government in reaching herd immunity so that we can go back to a better normal as soon as we can?”
A memorial mass was held for Gapas on March 7.
